LCC is working through Peace Lutheran Church in Grand Island, To provide training of LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs.
LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs bring comfort to indviduals and families who are suffering pain or loss. K-9 Comfort Dogs respond to crisis and disaster situations. In order to be able to accomplish this outreach we need volunteers who can donate time and energy to train our precious golden retrievers who will then be placed to work in a church/school and touch thousand of lives!

Since you are eager for manifestations of the Spirit, strive to excel in building up the church. 13Therefore, one who speaks in a tongue should pray for the power to interpret. 14For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays but my mind is unfruitful. 15What am I to do? 1On one occasion, while the crowd was pressing in on [Jesus] to hear the word of God, he was standing by the lake of Gennesaret, 2and he saw two boats by the lake, but the fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets. 3Getting into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, he asked him to put out a little from the land. And he sat down and taught the people from the boat. 4And when he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” 5And Simon answered, “Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! I will show you a still more excellent way. 1If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing. 4Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant 5or rude. 31[Jesus] went down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee. And he was teaching them on the Sabbath, 32and they were astonished at his teaching, for his word possessed authority. 33And in the synagogue there was a man who had the spirit of an unclean demon, and he cried out with a loud voice, 34“Ha! What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God.” 35But Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be silent and come out of him!” And when the demon had thrown him down in their midst, he came out of him, having done him no harm. 36And they were all amazed and said to one another, “What is this word? For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out!” 37And reports about him went out into every place in the surrounding region. 38And he arose and left the synagogue and entered Simon’s house. Now Simon’s mother-in-law was ill with a high fever, and they appealed to him on her behalf. 39And he stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her, and immediately she rose and began to serve them. 40Now when the sun was setting, all those who had any who were sick with various diseases brought them to him, and he laid his hands on every one of them and healed them. 41And demons also came out of many, crying, “You are the Son of God!” But he rebuked them and would not allow them to speak, because they knew that he was the Christ. 42And when it was day, he departed and went into a desolate place. On Sunday, January 27 Heartland Lutheran High School is hosting an open house from 2:00 – 5:00 pm for all students and families. Tour the campus, talk with teacher, parents, and students about their experiences, and get more information about our programs, activities, and more.
On Monday, January 28th from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm the Heartland Lutheran National Honor Society Students will be hosting a Blood Drive for the Red Cross. Please consider coming in to make a donation and helping them reach their goal of over 30 usable units –reaching 30 usable units will make HLHS students eligible for a Scholarship through the Red Cross. Become An Apprentice Trainer – Share Christ’s Love!
LCC is working through Peace Lutheran Church in Grand Island, To provide training of LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs.
LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs bring comfort to indviduals and families who are suffering pain or loss. K-9 Comfort Dogs respond to crisis and disaster situations. In order to be able to accomplish this outreach we need volunteers who can donate time and energy to train our precious golden retrievers who will then be placed to work in a church/school and touch thousand of lives!

Old Testament Reading Nehemiah 8:1–3, 5–6, 8–10

1 All the people gathered as one man into the square before the Water Gate. And they told Ezra the scribe to bring the Book of the Law of Moses that the LORD had commanded Israel. 2So Ezra the priest brought the Law before the assembly, both men and women and all who could understand what they heard, on the first day of the seventh month. 3And he read from it facing the square before the Water Gate from early morning until midday, in the presence of the men and the women and those who could understand. And the ears of all the people were attentive to the Book of the Law. . . .5And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people, for he was above all the people, and as he opened it all the people stood. 6And Ezra blessed the LORD, the great God, and all the people answered, “Amen, Amen,” lifting up their hands. And they bowed their heads and worshiped the LORD with their faces to the ground. . . .8They read from the book, from the Law of God, clearly, and they gave the sense, so that the people understood the reading. 9And Nehemiah, who was the governor, and Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who taught the people said to all the people, “This day is holy to the LORD your God; do not mourn or weep.” For all the people wept as they heard the words of the Law. 10Then he said to them, “Go your way. Eat the fat and drink sweet wine and send portions to anyone who has nothing ready, for this day is holy to our Lord. And do not be grieved, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.”

Epistle 1 Corinthians 12:12–31a

12For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. 13For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit. 14For the body does not consist of one member but of many. 15If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. 16And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. 17If the whole body were an eye, where would be the sense of hearing? If the whole body were an ear, where would be the sense of smell? 18But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose. 19If all were a single member, where would the body be? 20As it is, there are many parts, yet one body. 21The eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you,” nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” 22On the contrary, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, 23and on those parts of the body that we think less honorable we bestow the greater honor, and our unpresentable parts are treated with greater modesty, 24which our more presentable parts do not require. But God has so composed the body, giving greater honor to the part that lacked it, 25that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another. 26If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together. 27Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it. 28And God has appointed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, helping, administrating, and various kinds of tongues. 29Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? 30Do all possess gifts of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? 31But earnestly desire the higher gifts.

Holy Gospel Luke 4:16–30

16[Jesus] came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. And as was his custom, he went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and he stood up to read. 17And the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written, 18“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, 19to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” 20And he rolled up the scroll and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him. 21And he began to say to them, “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.” 22And all spoke well of him and marveled at the gracious words that were coming from his mouth. And they said, “Is not this Joseph’s son?” 23And he said to them, “Doubtless you will quote to me this proverb, ‘Physician, heal yourself.’ What we have heard you did at Capernaum, do here in your hometown as well.” 24And he said, “Truly, I say to you, no prophet is acceptable in his hometown. 25But in truth, I tell you, there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heavens were shut up three years and six months, and a great famine came over all the land, 26and Elijah was sent to none of them but only to Zarephath, in the land of Sidon, to a woman who was a widow. 27And there were many lepers in Israel in the time of the prophet Elisha, and none of them was cleansed, but only Naaman the Syrian.” 28When they heard these things, all in the synagogue were filled with wrath. 29And they rose up and drove him out of the town and brought him to the brow of the hill on which their town was built, so that they could throw him down the cliff. 30But passing through their midst, he went away.

HLHS NEWS… On Friday, January 25 Heartland Lutheran High School will host a visit day for all students in grades 5 – 8. Students will participate in classroom activities, have lunch, and play games with Heartland Lutheran students. This is their chance to see what Heartland Lutheran is all about.

Monday (1/14) and Tuesday (1/15) at 6:00 pm The Grand Theater will be offering free showings of the film It Must Make Peace which is focused on Trinity Lutheran graduate Paul Chandler’s work in Mali Africa and using music and traditional dance to help keep peace in an area that is being infiltrated by Radical Islam that outlaws music. The film is made possible by Paul Chandler’s Instruments 4 Africa. The film is 86 minutes long and will be followed by a Q & A with Paul Chandler. This is a great opportunity to see the great work being done by a Grand Island native and a Trinity Lutheran School alum.

Old Testament Isaiah 62:1–5

1For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent, and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not be quiet, until her righteousness goes forth as brightness, and her salvation as a burning torch. 2The nations shall see your righteousness, and all the kings your glory, and you shall be called by a new name that the mouth of the LORD will give. 3You shall be a crown of beauty in the hand of the LORD, and a royal diadem in the hand of your God. 4You shall no more be termed Forsaken, and your land shall no more be termed Desolate, but you shall be called My Delight Is in Her, and your land Married; for the LORD delights in you, and your land shall be married. 5For as a young man marries a young woman, so shall your sons marry you, and as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, so shall your God rejoice over you.

Epistle 1 Corinthians 12:1–11

1Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be uninformed. 2You know that when you were pagans you were led astray to mute idols, however you were led. 3Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking in the Spirit of God ever says “Jesus is accursed!” and no one can say “Jesus is Lord” except in the Holy Spirit. 4Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; 5and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; 6and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. 7To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. 8To one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, 9to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, 10to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills.

Holy Gospel John 2:1–11

1On the third day there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. 2Jesus also was invited to the wedding with his disciples. 3When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.” 4And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does this have to do with me? My hour has not yet come.” 5His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” 6Now there were six stone water jars there for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons. 7Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. 8And he said to them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the feast.” So they took it. 9When the master of the feast tasted the water now become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom 10and said to him, “Everyone serves the good wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then the poor wine. The Church is looking for someone to volunteer to remove snow throughout this winter season. We would like to thank Loren Dibbern, Loren has volunteered many years doing this job for us here at church. The job would be to come following any snow or ice weather and make sure the sidewalks and entrances are clear of snow and ice for days of business for All Belong to Christ (ABC) Preschool/Daycare and also any Worship Service (Evenings or Sunday Mornings). This volunteer may bring his or her own UTV, Skid Loader or snow blower to make this job a little easier. The Church does have a snow shovel and does purchase rock salt for icy conditions. Please let Rick Leth know if you would be interested in Volunteering for this job.

Thank you for supporting the middle-schoolers on our trip to Omaha for the Youth gathering. We were able to show our different personalities by taking off our masks and to show our love for Christ. We also now know that Jesus loves us for who we are and not who we think we could be. Kendal Knuth

HLHS NEWS… On Friday, January 25 Heartland Lutheran High School will host a visit day for all students in grades 5 – 8. Students will participate in classroom activities, have lunch, and play games with Heartland Lutheran students. This is their chance to see what Heartland Lutheran is all about.
On Sunday, January 27 Heartland Lutheran High School is hosting an open house from 2:00 – 5:00 pm for all students and families. Tour the campus, talk with teacher, parents, and students about their experiences, and get more information about our programs, activities, and more.
Heartland Lutheran is proud to announce that its Science Initiative is fully funded. HLHS received grants through the Dunklau Foundation, Kaufmann-Cummings Foundation, and private donors to help this project. There is now $95,000 available to update curriculum and equipment to further strengthen our Science Program and Robotics Team. Thank you for all who contributed!

Epistle Ephesians – 3:1–12

Holy Gospel – Matthew 2:1–12

1Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, 2saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? Lois R. Going, 92, of Grand Island passed away Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2016, at Tiffany Square.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 10, at Peace Lutheran Church. Pastor Mike Reiners will officiate. Burial will follow in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, at the church.

All Faiths Funeral Home is serving the family.

You are cordially invited to attend the Ordination and Installation Services for Brian Lynn Wright, Sunday, June 26, 2016 at 1 o’clock in the afternoon at Christ Lutheran Church, 503 W. Medina Street, Cairo, NE. A cake reception will follow the service.

Raised in Lakewood, Colorado, Brian was baptized at Concordia Lutheran Church following his birth in 1968.  Brian graduated in 1992 from Christ College, Irvine with a Bachelor’s Degree in Youth & Family Ministry and DCE Certification, having also completed an Internship at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Medford, Oregon the previous year.  Brian’s first DCE Call was to Immanuel Lutheran Church & School in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he also met and married Lisa nee Dye in 1993.  Their children, Taryn and Trystan were born and baptized while they served at Immanuel, and their daughter Taryn attended Immanuel Preschool.  In 1998, the Wright’s moved to Vacaville, California when Brian accepted a Call to serve as DCE at Bethany Lutheran Church and School.  Having completed her Lutheran Teacher Colloquy from Concordia Irvine, as well as the SLED Administrator’s Certification program, Lisa became the Kindergarten teacher and Principal of the school at Bethany, and Taryn and their son Trystan attended preschool and elementary school there.  Brian completed a Master’s Degree in Family Life Science in 2004 and served as the Director of Family Life Ministry at Bethany until 2006, when they accepted a Call to Trinity Lutheran Church and School in Franktown, Colorado, also to serve as Director of Family Ministry.  While back in Colorado, the children attended Trinity Lutheran School, and Taryn graduated from Lutheran High School, Parker.  In 2013 Brian, Lisa, and Trystan moved to St. Louis to attend Concordia Seminary, while Taryn remained in Colorado to enter the workforce.  Trystan graduated from Lindberg High School in St. Louis and Lisa taught at Salem Lutheran School during Brian’s time at the Seminary.  Brian graduated with a Pastoral Certificate for Ordination from Concordia Seminary’s Alternate Route Program in May of 2016, having completed his Vicarage year at Christ Lutheran Church in Cairo, Nebraska, under the supervision of Vacancy Pastor James E. Fandrey.  The Reverend Wright and his family now live in the Parsonage of Christ Lutheran Church, Cairo, where they begin their first Call as Pastor.
