UPDATE on 2019 Mission Pledge
Our 2019 assessment for Heartland Lutheran High School has been met. November & December assessments were paid in full in November.
However…We have not paid anything towards our pledge to the District & Synod and NACC (Concordia Scholarship program). As of November 10, our balance in the Mission Fund is $1, 908.83. Our 2019 pledge to the District is $7,000, we are in need of $5,091.17 to meet the total Mission Pledge for 2019.

After much deliberation and prayer Matt and I have decided we are stepping down as leaders of LYF after May 2020. Please consider offering your time and talent to this group of young adults. If you are interested contact Matt or Lois Neppl and they will integrate you into the group now, so you can seamlessly take over leadership.
Lutheran Youth Fellowship equips teens to develop and use their leadership skills as they serve Christ within their congregations and communities. Youth are not the church of tomorrow…they are part of the church today.

In this Advent series for traditional worship we welcome the Christ Child, who is the light of the world, arising in our lives this season. In celebration, we, in turn, shine with the light of Christ in various ways for all the world to see the brightness of his love. Each week will focus on a dif-ferent aspect of the light of Christ and how we are enlightened by him throughout our lives. The theme verse for the entire series is: “Arise, shine, for your light has come” (Isaiah 60:1).
Children’s Christmas Eve Worship
Tues. Dec. 24; 7pm
Please join us on Christmas Eve for the Sunday School and Youth program/service. The title of this year’s program is Children of the Promise. It’s an updated version of the program presented ten years ago with a message of a Savior that bears repeating. Told in the words of children in the Bible, we learn of God’s plan to send a Savior for all people, we see how the law shows us our need for a Savior, and we see the Nativity – Jesus’ glorious birth – the real, the ONLY reason for the season!
Christmas Morning Worship
Weds. Dec. 25 at 7 a.m.
This service for Christmas Day celebrates that Jesus, the Light of the world, lies in a manger in Bethlehem. He is our Light, the Light no darkness can overcome. Hymns in the service include “O Come, All Ye Faithful,” “Hark the Herald Angels Sing,” “What Child Is This” and “Joy to the World.”
Ladies Aid members will be organizing delivery of Christmas goodie boxes
to members of the church and community members who are shut-in or suffering from illness. Members and anyone else desiring to help contribute goodies (cookies, and nuts, popcorn, and low sugar treats for diabetics) will meet Saturday, Dec. 14, 9:30-10:30 a.m. at church (Old Fellowship Hall) to assemble the boxes. Assembly takes about an hour, and then participants help deliver the boxes to the home of recipients.
Old Testament Reading Isaiah 2:1–5
1The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem. 2It shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established as the highest of the mountains, and shall be lifted up above the hills; and all the nations shall flow to it, 3and many peoples shall come, and say: “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob, that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in his paths.” For out of Zion shall go the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. 4He shall judge between the nations, and shall decide disputes for many peoples; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore. 5O house of Jacob, come, let us walk in the light of the LORD.
Epistle Romans 13:11–14
11Besides this you know the time, that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed. 12The night is far gone; the day is at hand. So then let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light. 13Let us walk properly as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in quarreling and jealousy. 14But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.
Holy Gospel Matthew 21:1–11
1Now when they drew near to Jerusalem and came to Bethphage, to the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples, 2saying to them, “Go into the village in front of you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her. Untie them and bring them to me. 3If anyone says anything to you, you shall say, ‘The Lord needs them,’ and he will send them at once.” 4This took place to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet, saying, 5“Say to the daughter of Zion, ‘Behold, your king is coming to you, humble, and mounted on a donkey, and on a colt, the foal of a beast of burden.’” 6The disciples went and did as Jesus had directed them. 7They brought the donkey and the colt and put on them their cloaks, and he sat on them. 8Most of the crowd spread their cloaks on the road, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. 9And the crowds that went before him and that followed him were shouting, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!” 10And when he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred up, saying, “Who is this?” 11And the crowds said, “This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth of Galilee.”
