• Prayers for Tim & Brit Echtenkamp from Austin Tx. on the birth of their son, Maximillian was born on June 22, 2019 prematurely, weighing 4lbs 7oz Mom and baby are still in the hospital. Maximillian is expected to stay for a couple of months.
• Prayers for Rick Schultz, Rick is at QLI in Omaha, for further rehabilitation following an ATV rollover. If you would like to send Rick well wishes his address is: QLI, Rick Schultz, #3, 6309 N. 70th Plaza, Omaha, NE. 68104 Rick is doing much better! Thank you all for your prayers for Rick to get better! The Lord is Good!
• Please keep Cheryl Klock, Julie Whitefoot’s sister in your prayers. Cheryl underwent a stem cell replacement on Wednesday June 26, at the Mayo Clinic in Arizona.
• Prayers for Angie Gill from Wood River, Angie was admitted to the hospital last Monday evening with severe head pressure. It was discovered that she has a brain tumor on her right frontal cortex. She is now at Bryan West in Lincoln where they operated and resected the tumor on Friday. Pathology will examine the tissue and hopefully be able to give us more info and a diagnosis next week.
• Prayers for the Family and Friends of Patricia Lemmermann, wife of our past pastor here at Christ Cairo, Rev. Walter Lemmermann from 1965-1971. Patricia entered into heaven on Tuesday June 25 her funeral service was held Friday June 28 St. Louis MO.

The Red Hornet Golf Scramble is Sunday, July 28th at Indianhead Golf Course. We will again be having a pre-round meal provided by Probasco Partners Inc. that begins at 12:00 and then a shotgun start at 1:00 pm. Those interested in registering a team or sponsoring the tournament can do so by filling out the attached form and mailing it to the school office with a check, or going to www.heartlandlutheran.org and registering right there on the homepage.
We are hoping for record numbers again this year, so sign up early to reserve your spot.

Dear Christ Lutheran Church, As you are probably aware, over the course of the last 4 days, our beloved Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod has been holding the election for our next President of the Synod. The President-Elect will serve for the term of the next “triennium” of three years, until the summer of 2022. Please see the attached announcement from the Synod offices reporting the results of that election process being the re-election of our incumbent President, Reverend Dr. Matthew Harrison for a 4th term as Synod President. He will be installed at and preside over the Synod Convention taking place in a few weeks. Join me in praying for God’s blessing on Rev. Harrison re-elected LCMS President
The Rev. Dr. Matthew C. Harrison has been re-elected to a fourth term as president of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod after receiving the majority vote on the first ballot during the June 22–25 election period.
The three nominees for president of the Synod were Harrison, the Rev. Dr. David P.E. Maier and the Rev. Timothy M. Klinkenberg. The results of the ballots (cast by a total registered electorate of 6,449), as tallied by Election-America and reported to the secretary of the Synod on June 26, are as follows: Harrison — 3,014 votes (51.76 percent) Maier — 2,323 votes (39.89 percent) Klinkenberg — 486 votes (8.35 percent)
The installation service will take place at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 13, in the chapel on the campus of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis.
Patricia Evelyn Kerbs Lemmermann, age 86, entered into heaven on Tuesday, June 25, 2019. Pat was born on Sunday, December 11, 1932 to Henry and Lydia Blehm Kerbs at her grandparents’ home in Florence, Kansas. She grew up in Topeka, Kansas. She attended Washburn University prior to teaching 2nd grade at Topeka Lutheran School. She married Reverend Walter Lemmermann on December 26, 1954. Pat’s life was devoted to God, her family and music. She was a dedicated and invaluable partner in her husband’s ministry in all the congregations they served over a 58-year span in California, Nebraska, Illinois, and Missouri. Pat’s lifelong dream was to have a large family. She had a love for and gift of music. She accompanied and directed choirs and bands from grade school through college. She taught many children to play the piano, and for nearly 40 years, she used her talents as a church organist and director of children’s and adult choirs. She brought out the best in people. Her choirs included those, who with her encouragement, were singing for the first time. Pat was active in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and many other church and musical organizations. Her greatest joy was her family. Any time spent with her children, grandchildren, siblings, extended family, and friends was “the time of my life”, as she would often say. Her standard yet sincere greeting to those she loved was, “Hello, Precious!” Her faith, optimism, wit, kindness, and gentle soul will be remembered fondly by everyone who knew her. Pat was preceded in death by her parents, her sister and brother-in-law Sheila and Hal Des Jardins, and her niece, Collette Des Jardins DuPree. She is survived by her husband and children, Sherri Lemmermann, Walt Lemmermann, Suzanne (Tom) Hough, Scott (Jean) Lemmermann, and Marthe (Colin) Theodore; four grandchildren, Tom and John Hough, and Aaron and Hannah Lemmermann; her sister, Linda (Bob) Letterer; and 12 nephews and nieces. Memorials: A heartfelt thank you to the BJC Hospice and Visiting Angels teams for their wonderful care of Pat. If so inclined, memorials may be made to BJC Foundation for Hospice, PO Box 790369, St. Louis, MO 63179. Services: Visitation will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 9733 Olive Boulevard, St. Louis, MO from 10:00 to 11:00 am on Friday, June 28, 2019, followed by a service at 11:00. A private burial will follow at St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Chester, Illinois.

Behold, the word of the LORD came to [Elijah], and he said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” 10He said, “I have been very jealous for the LORD, the God of hosts. For the people of Israel have forsaken your covenant, thrown down your altars, and killed your prophets with the sword, and I, even I only, am left, and they seek my life, to take it away.” 11And he said, “Go out and stand on the mount before the LORD.” And behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. 12And after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. Epistle Galatians 5:1, 13–25
1For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery. . . .13For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. 14For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 15But if you bite and devour one another, watch out that you are not consumed by one another. 16But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. 18But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 19Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, 21envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. 24And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit.

51When the days drew near for [Jesus] to be taken up, he set his face to go to Jerusalem. 52And he sent messengers ahead of him, who went and entered a village of the Samaritans, to make preparations for him. 53But the people did not receive him, because his face was set toward Jerusalem. 54And when his disciples James and John saw it, they said, “Lord, do you want us to tell fire to come down from heaven and consume them?” 55But he turned and rebuked them. 56And they went on to another village. 57As they were going along the road, someone said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.” 58And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.” 59To another he said, “Follow me.” But he said, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.” 60And Jesus said to him, “Leave the dead to bury their own dead. But as for you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God.” 61Yet another said, “I will follow you, Lord, but let me first say farewell to those at my home.” 62Jesus said to him, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.”
